Those who listen to these short stories hoping to get a glimpse into the origins of the movie Quantum of Solace will be sorely disappointed. The short story and the movie have literally nothing to do with each other. In fact, the movie does not even attempt to explain what the term quantum of solace is. You will discover that on disk 3 in the quasi-love story that is Quantum of Solace. This is not merely snobish dismissal of the movie translation because I'm of the ilk that says that books are always better than the movie. The movie is actually much better than the short story. The movie makers did not attempt to base their movie on the short story in any way shape or form. There are zero similarities, in fact, James Bond isn't even the main character in the short story. Now for the rest of the book. The narration is decent with the expected british eloquence. Be forewarned though, these stories were written in a different time and some of the chauvanistic and racist language may offend. The best thing about reading original bond stories by Ian Fleming is getting into the head of James Bond and exploring the humanity of a character that the big screen portrays as a cold hearted robotic machine. While in written word, James Bond is a considerate, sometimes insecure and vulnerable government agent. The full length books that I've read were better than the short stories.
