Synopsis

Kate Neuman, a brilliant hematologist, comes to post-Ceausescu Romania to lend her expertise in the treatment of rare blood diseases. Her most baffling case is that of an abandoned seven-month-old boy who requires bi-weekly transfusions to survive. When a nurse injects the boy with the wrong type blood, he flourishes rather than dies. Kate discovers that the boy is capable of taking any blood type, and realizes that his unique immune system may hold the key to a cure for cancer and AIDS, as well as tremendous potential for extending human lives.

Kate adopts this miraculous baby and goes back home to Colorado, only to be tracked down by kidnappers who destroy her lab, kill her friends, and steal the infant. Pursued by mysterious, superhuman thugs, members of a Romanian underground with a strange and terrifying link to Vlad Dracula, Kate returns to eastern Europe and chases across the barren landscape to Transylvania to save the child from his grim destiny.
