This is one of the best Spenser novels so far. I was a fan of the TV series so when I read these books I see Robert Urich and Avery Brooks in my head which just makes it that more enjoyalbe. In this novel Spenser is hired to find out why Trips' wife Olivia Nelsonwas killed. Tripp does not believe it was random as the police say it was and the police do not really believe that either but their hands are tied by someone with clout. It takes Spenser to South Carolina where he gets into trouble investigating Olivia Nelson's past, no one wants to talk about her or even admit they know her not even her father. Spenser ends up in jail and Lt Quirk has to get him out. I pretty much knew what had happened but the end did surprise me after all. Just as with any series after a while you can only investigate so many types of issues but the fact that Spenser grows as a person or charecter if you wishand his relationships with Susan and Hawke get more interesting makes for a great story. Plus the dialog will have you laughing out loud sometimes. If you enjoy a good Private Eye story, a fun read you cannot miss with this series!
