Synopsis

A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night... Hayley Phillips came to Memphis hoping for a new start, for herself and her unborn child. She wasn't looking for a handout from her distant cousin Roz, just a job at her thriving In the Garden nursery. What she found was a home surrounded by beauty and the best friends she's ever had - including Roz's son Harper. To Hayley's delight, her new daughter Lily has really taken to him. To Hayley's chagrin, she has begun to dream about Harper - as much more than a friend... If Hayley gives in to her desire, she's afraid the foundation she's built with Harper will come tumbling down. Especially since she's begun to suspect that her feelings are no longer completely her own. Flashes of the past and erratic behavior make Hayley believe that the Harper Bride has found a way inside of her mind and body. IIt's time to put the Bride to rest once and for all, so Hayley can know her own heart again - and whether she's willing to risk it...

The final book of the “In The Garden” series where the mystery of Amelia is revealed. This was the least satisfying of the three books because ti depends more on stereotype and romance novel formula. I didn’t like Hayley that much because her personality got too hard to take after awhile with her “Oh poor me” lament, her stubbornness and her mood swings. She wasn’t too smart either and was overwhelming in her cuteness. That girl needs to get her some PROZAC and practice some abstinence! Harper was not much better as a male character with his ”Me man“ attitude, beating his chest and saying “I will protect you and I’m the man so I will take care of everything and because I am right I don’t need to consult you.” I'm surprised he didn't say to Hayley 'Don't worry your pretty little head about it'! He definitely needs to get with the program and learn that women have been emancipated for years! The whole idea of the stories is that opposites attract but I honestly wouldn’t think these two would make it as a couple in the real world. So that part of the story was disappointing but the rest was very good and worth reading. I think BLACK ROSE is the best of the three books and on the whole the series is one of Roberts' best.

Being the last of the In The Garden trilogy, I wasn't disappointed in this installment. I appreciated Harper and Hayley. From the first book I wanted them to get together. I was hoping to a better end when it came to the Amelia mystery. I couldn't understand her hatred of men including those in her own family line. But all in all, it was a good, quick read.

This was such a great book! I was so sad to see the series end. You really fall in love with all of Nora's characters.
