The founder of the Tehran School of Social Work tells how she left the security of a Persian harem, attended the University of Southern California, returned to Iran only to be arrested after the collapse of the Shah’s regime, and was forced to flee into exile.
Beginning was great, an interesting peek at life in a harem. However, I got progressively more bored toward the end - it seemed as if the story turned into less of a biography and more a historical account of events in Iran.
This was a really excellent book if one wants to understand some of the sweeping historical movements of Iran while following the story of one extraordinary woman. The end is particularly poignant as she describes the effect of the Islamic revolution on her family and her life's work.
