Synopsis

Single and alone, Byron is settling into the complacency of his late thirties when a brief, seemingly meaningless encounter sends his life spinning off course. He abruptly leaves his job and home in Baltimore and travels west to a strange spiritual community in Colorado known simply as Beyond, founded by a famous and perplexing self-help guru. From there, he is compelled to leave everything behind, including his own identity, as he proceeds past the limits of the physical human experience. Byron does eventually return, however, to experience life on Earth again—an identical time frame of 38 years, from birth to exit. This new life is the same in many ways, but there are crucial and sometimes brutal differences that lead him deeper into an understanding of what it means to be human, and what it means to die, in an interconnected universe.
