Synopsis

"It's a dark night in a city that knows how to keep its secrets. But on the twelfth floor of the Acme Building, one man is still trying to find the answers to life's persistent questions: Guy Noir, Private Eye."

The radio series "Guy Noir" debuted on A Prairie Home Companion in 1995 and has been a regular part of the show ever since. A smart, witty spoof of the pulp fiction/film noir genre, it blends original comedy with riffs on current events and a lingering nostalgia for simpler times. Bad guys, bartenders, and beautiful dames come and go as Noir seeks truth, justice, and a great pastrami sandwich. Garrison Keillor writes the stories and stars as the hard-boiled, world-weary, yet surprisingly articulate detective. The supporting cast (on the radio and here) includes Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and Fred Newman, with music by Richard Dworsky.
