Hamlet, also known as The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, is a Shakespeare tragedy written most likely around 1599. Set in Denmark, the play follows the revenge Prince Hamlet is called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet's father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, while marrying his deceased brother's widow. This is Shakespeare's longest play, and is among the most powerful and influential works of world literature and is still one of his most performed plays.
