Synopsis

After 31 years of silence, the accused BTK Strangler resurfaced in Wichita, Kansas after eluding justice since his first attack in 1974. Some local law enforcement officials think the killer reemerged after hearing about the publication of a forthcoming book on the murders.

NIGHTMARE IN WICHITA is the first book to examine one of the most explosive and intriguing serial murder cases since the Zodiac Killer. While teaching a course at Newman University, Robert Beattie began writing a chapter about the BTK Strangler for a textbook he planned to use in class. He soon discovered that it would take more than a chapter to tell the story. Beattie was in high school when the murders began and knows firsthand the fear, anger, and grief that so many Wichita residents felt when it was revealed that a serial killer was on the loose. Beattie became thoroughly engrossed in the case, interviewing dozens of law enforcement officials and members of the victims' families. Considered the case's foremost expert, Beattie has appeared on several national television and radio shows, sharing his thoughts and theories about the case.
