Synopsis

Once upon a time, Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree was a hotshot money manager to Manhattan's rich and dreadful—until she left city life behind for a centuries-old fixer-upper in the quaint seaside town of Eastport, Maine. But even this tiny haven has its hazards—and they can be astonishingly deadly….

What would you do if a long-buried book was unearthed from beneath your 1823 fixer-upper—a book containing your name written in blood? That's the mystery Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree faces in the midst of her latest old-house renovations. But it's only the first in a town better known for its scenic views and historic homes than its body count. Now Jake is putting aside her hammer and fixing to find someone who's got the blueprint for a perfect murder.

In this book we open with Dave Dimaio driving to Maine to get revenge for his friend Horace who died in the last book. He ends up at Jacobia Jake Triptree's house and from there you are never really sure what the book is about. Is it about the party that Jake is supposed to be getting ready for, is it about her housekeeper and her dad wanting to get married, is it about the local crazy person and his UFO sightings or is it about the book that is supposedly 200 years old and has a list of all of the owners of the house that Jake has bought and is fixing up? Even though we accomplish each and every one of these things in a haphazard fashion, the charecters this time gave off the feeling that even they were not sure what they were supposed to be doing. Is Elle going to be any more perfect, is Wade going to be a supportive husband, is Sam going to let his addictions be the end of him or is Jake going to be hit on the head one time to many. I will wait until the next installment of this set until I make my final decision as to whether it has run it course or can Sarah get back on track.
