Synopsis

This hallucinatory little journey through one man's shattered memory and consciousness was written by the author of THE BEACH and the screenplay for the acclaimed zombie film 28 DAYS LATER; the delicate black-and-white woodcuts that illustrate the book were created by the author's father, a political cartoonist. Carl, the first-person narrator, is beaten unconscious by some toughs on the subway. After he awakens, he undergoes some bizarre experiences that cause him to wonder if he actually has regained consciousness. Perhaps he is really in a coma; but if that's true, is there anything constructive he can do to return to the waking world?
