Wells (1866-1946) was an English writer prolific in many genres, writing dozens of novels, short stories and works of social commentary, satire, biography and autobiography, although he is best-remembered today for his science fiction novels. This travel essay recounts Wells's impressions from his first visit to America in the Spring of 1906. Parts of the book were serialised in the Tribune in the UK and Harper's Weekly in the US from July to October that year and the complete version was then published in book form in November 1906. It was well-received in the US and very successful in Britain, gaining praise from the likes of Winston Churchill and Beatrice Webb. With 12 illustrations.
