Roland, the world's last gunslinger, tracks an enigmatic Man in Black toward a forbidding dark tower, fighting forces both mortal and other-worldly on his quest, in a revised and expanded edition of the classic fantasy novel. Simultaneous.
I'm an avid audiobook listener and I found The Gunslinger difficult to follow in audiobook format. The story often jumps around without warning and if you're like me and listen to books while driving, you're liable to lose touch with this story. Which is disappointing because I've wanted to listen to this series for a while. I made it through 2 disks before I packed it up and sent it back to booksfree.com
Its been years since I read the Gunslinger and I must admit, I enjoyed it as much this time as the first time. Roland, Jake, Cuthbert, Cort...all great and memorable characters within a world reminiscent of the Spaghetti Westerns I grew up with. Listening to this story was like being reunited with an old and favorite friend. The character development Mr. King took the time to unveil made these heroes people we wanted to know more about, cheered for, became angry with and felt sorry for. Good beginning to a great series of stories.
