Synopsis

The adventures of Uhtred, an orphaned ninth-century Saxon warrior and reluctant vassal to King Alfred of Wessex, pick up right where the first volume of the series, THE LAST KINGDOM, left off. The pagan Uhtred must decide whether to master his dislike for the pious Christian Alfred and fight on the beleaguered king’s side against desperate odds, or to return to the invading Danish Vikings who raised him after slaughtering his family.
