Synopsis

This edition has been updated to reflect new developments and includes new material obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

Pat Tillman walked away from a multimillion-dollar NFL contract to join the Army and became an icon of post-9/11 patriotism. When he was killed in Afghanistan two years later, a legend was born. But the real Pat Tillman was much more remarkable, and considerably more complicated than the public knew...

A stunning account of a remarkable young man's heroic life and death, from the bestselling author of Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, and Under the Banner of Heaven.

A very interesting and informative read. It is sodisturbing that the Army fabricated spin. More and more, it is stories like this that make me very skeptical of so many of our institutions. I grew up wanting to be a soldier, but with the Vietnam deception I became disillusioned. This narrative only exacerbates that tendency. Dang but what an excellent writer and researcher Mr. Krakauer is. Too bad his Three cups of deceit is not available via Booksfree. I am anxious to read it as well. Never did believe that man could by himself construct so many schools. I became especially suspicious when I heard his partner claim that their institute was entirely a twoperson operation. Hope Booksfree can get rights to that offering.
