Synopsis

This Edwardian-era historical novel is a fictional account of murderer Hawley Crippen and his mistress Ethel Le Neve's real-life attempted escape from England via an ocean liner bound for North America. When Crippen's marriage to an ex-music hall singer develops problems, he solves them by killing her, chopping up her body, and burying the pieces in the cellar. He and Ethel then hop aboard the SS Montrose, disguised as Mr. John Robinson and his teenage 'son' Edmund (Ethel in boy's clothes). Will their subterfuge hold throughout the voyage, or will they and Crippen's hideous criminal past be unmasked?
