Synopsis

Ivanhoe brings to life twelfth-century England. This masterful story of courtly love and chivalry includes several unforgettable scenes: the rescue of Ivanhoe by Robin Hood, Richard the Lion-Hearted's aid at evil King John's tournament, and the wounded Ivanhoe's duel to save Rebecca from the stake.

If you can imagine the English actor John Hurt playing a very affected, intellectual aristocrat, you'll have a good idea of what Frederick Davidson sounds like when reading this wonderful story. Unfortunately, Ivanhoe isn't some nineteenth century drawing room romance and Davidson seems totally inappropriate as its reader. I've sent the disks back after listening to the first 30 minutes and I hope that the other audio-book version of Ivanhoe employs a reader whose style is better suited to Twelfth Century characters.
