What is Pottermore?

by Emily Roberts on May 4, 2013

When J.K. Rowling hinted at more of ”the boy who lived,” Harry Potter fans held their collective breaths for what would happen next. The result after a long time of anticipation got mixed results. The result of the fans not so patient waiting was what is simply known as…Pottermore. The live blog is a way for fans to move beyond the Harry Potter series by exploring the seven books in an interactive way and reading additional information on the beloved characters of the extremely popular series.

The unveiling of Pottermore received mixed reviews from publishers and fans alike. The article by Adrian Hon for The Telegraph entitled, “Why JK Rowling’s Pottermore will Frighten Struggling Authors-and Remember She Used to be One,” is only one of the articles out there that addresses the decision of the bestselling author to offer the ebooks of the series on the Pottermore website. Publishers, some fans, and even struggling authors are concerned over what this might mean to ebook sales for other authors if the trend catches on.

As far the site itself, reviews have ranged from “boring,” to “amazing” according to just who is doing the reviewing. What are your thoughts on Pottermore, as a fan or an author? We would love to hear them.

Mary Higgins Clark: The Queen of Suspense

by Emily Roberts on April 27, 2013

Hillel Italie describes the queen of suspense Mary Higgins Clark perfectly in her article for Denverpost.com entitled, “Mary Higgins Clark Active as Ever at Age 85.” In many readers’ eyes the beloved author is not only an amazing writer, but an amazing woman as well.

Widowed at an early age with five children to take care of on her own, Clark did not buckle under the strain as many young women would have. She pulled it together, squelched her grief, and decided that she would support her children with her writing. Years later she has proven herself and has over 40 bestselling novels to prove it. She is an inspiration to young women and older women everywhere, and proves that you can make it on your own and make your dreams come true.

I still remember reading her book Where are the Children, and becoming a fan for life. Mary Higgins Clark has and always will be one of my favorite suspense authors. No one can tell a story like she does and when I start a new book I make sure I don’t have to get up early the next morning, because I know I won’t be going to bed early!
